The project has been commissioned by InfraCo Africa, part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), and Grindrod.

Project Description
The 1 000 t, 96-m-long purpose-built roll-on/roll-off ferry will transport fully laden trucks between Port Bell, serving Kampala, in Uganda, and the port at Mwanza South, in Tanzania.

The EAMT ferry will cross the lake in about 22 hours, compared with the current journey around the lake by road of three to four days.
